Fractured Fungus Covered Window Glass. Junked Freedom Bus. North Carolina Salvage Yard.
The bus is part of some jarring American history but it also unexpectedly coughed up some funky modern art. I learned to shoot these naturally occurring abstracts from my colleague Jim Provencher. The patterns, coloration, and presentation are very engaging. But the location of this fractured glazing real piqued my historical curiosity.
Walk about photography often triggers cascading events. I copped 10-15 strong isolated shots off this wreck. Then I wrote a short story (emulating Rod Serling) which centered on my imaginary brush with a slain civil rights worker. My approach has always been to embrace what the forage serves up. Even a junked bus might have great secrets.
