Fractured Window Glazing. West Texas Desert.

Wind, rain, and intense sunlight created an unexpected kool exhibit in this open aired museum

We approached a wrecked tool shed in nearly deserted Sierra Blanca, Texas. The golden morning light on this window caught my eye. I cranked up the controls on my Nikon to full rock ‘n roll—deep under exposure, vivid color, and heavy saturation. I would never turn down my camera settings again!

My distinct photographic signature was born. Forensic Foraging came next for me and Jim Provencher. Basic throwback shooting techniques coupled with old fashioned attention to crime scene detail became our contemporary alternative to heavily computer manipulated digital photography.

We heartily embraced minimalism, less was always more in our work. By choice, we employed older, classic camera bodies and lenses. Vintage equipment seemed only fitting in concert with our reversion to seminal shooting techniques.

Forensic Foraging emphasizes enhanced camera settings, creative framing, extensive use of natural Golden Hour light, and the excessive crime scene attention to often overlooked details. Lifting up the unnoticed in a pleasing photograph frame is our simple strategic goal. The gear heads and computer graphics freaks often made fun of us. But I remain proud of never owning any post processing software. For the truly talented photographer, straight out of the camera is enough.
