The Forensic Forage Thrives on Finding Funk.
Just like pornography, you know it when you see it. You might just define it simply as being “off the wall” or as being “quirky odd“. I have been combining funk with the mundane in photo frames for decades. Confronted with shooting something spectacular like the Grand Canyon or the NYC sky line, I tilt hard toward fabulous funk. Why?! Many people have little appreciation for it, so the well crafted off kilter image often turns out to be quite revelatory for some of my audience.
Funky, mundane shots are somewhat like the Mississippi blues. They are simpatico but “of the people“ and “true to the real world“. When you consume either, then you are really dealing with genuine authenticity. This important A word is why my work consciously avoids much computer manipulation and post processing.
I never have known for certain whether any of my images rose to the level of art. I gleefully entrust that decision to the viewer. However, I can say with complete certainty that I consistently deliver authenticity imbedded in an eclectic menu. Thankfully, this is exactly my primary goal. Not many people ever make it to a Nevada open air museum. But I found this exhibit on foot and I got this resulting frame published. You just have to be out there …(Jimmy Pro)
